Hi Karyn,

I just wanted to let you know that little Shortbread is doing great here in Vancouver! My roommate has a dog as well, a Chihuahua/Pomeranian, and they play with each other all the time. I bought Shortbread a little pink sweater the other day and less than a day later, I came home to find she had taken it off and chewed off 2 of the 4 buttons. I'll be fixing it when I get a chance though, she's not getting out of wearing it that easily!

We went home for Christmas and I surprised my family with her, they didn't know I was getting a dog, and they loved her. She made Christmas very interesting, especially for our 14 year old family dog who wasn't a big fan of her unfortunately. She was just too old I guess! Anyways, hope everything is well and your dogs are happy!

Hi Karyn and Duane,

Hope you had a great Christmas. Karyn, how is the foot? Hope it healed well and you are getting around better! Congrats on another litter too.

Duffy is growing like a weed and Jacki is doing great. Duffy's ears stood up, then one folded back down. About a week later it stood up, but the other one is now laying sideways, toward the other. Have you ever heard of this or seen it? I read online somewhere that teething can cause issues with the ear strength. Kind of funny looking. He is quite a character. Part of the time he is the little pup from Hell, the rest he is a little angel. I call him Jekyll & Hyde. Jacki plays a lot with him and keeps him in line when he gets too rough. They love their playtime in the yard and walks. Duffy will put up with his halter and leash to follow Jacki around.

They have their first vet visit next week for Duffy's shot and for Jacki to meet the vet and get checked over prior to surgery. They will schedule it then.

P.S. I was reading about Stewie and Babe in your "Over the Rainbow" section. It's amazing how much personality he shares with his dad and grandmother. He even insists on setting on my lap and looking out the window of the car, or just curl up and naps on my lap while driving. He hates to "miss" seeing anything, though. He loves going to drive through windows with me, too, and carefully inspect what everyone is doing. Of course, the other people smile and compliment how handsome he is.

Dear Hinkleys,

Thank you for the call the other day. Attached are 3 photographs of our Duncan. We have quite a few but he moves so much most of them are blurry. One of the pictures tries to show his coloring which we quite like.

He's growing like a weed, He is up to about 6 pounds, and he's learned to recognize his name. He's inquisitive and seems to learn quickly, when he wants to. As you can see he has learned to climb on the rock "feature" in our yard all by himself. He takes leaps from the rocks into the heather bush next to them. He loves to bound through the periwinkle (it's higher than he is) though sometimes he decides to tunnel his way into it.

He hasn't been outside our yard yet but he is due for his shots next week and after that, if we can convince him to wear his collar, perhaps we'll take him on some real walks.

We'll drop you a line later with more pictures, maybe even some unfuzzy ones.

Hi Duane & Kayrn!

Lizzie's daughter Gwynn is sooooo like her! she climbs everything, is constantly in motion and is happiest on the back of the rocker/recliner with her feet hanging down like a rag doll.

She and "brother" Gordie from Idaho are as inseparable as if they were litter mates... they are constantly together and a delight to walk since they are always in step. He's about 25 lbs and a very gentle, sweet tempered black-brindle. and she is quite the sharp as a pistol and weighs in right at 20. Of course she rules the roost which you predicted!

Gwynn is a huge TV watcher and even attacks the screen when there is a cartoon animal on it... How does she know? Naturally they both sleep on the bed with us, and we wouldn't have it any other way. Great dogs both of them.

Hope you are all doing well up there. We were sorry to hear of Charlie's passing, and are glad to see Lizzie still part of the picture. Take it easy, and you are always invited to stop in any time you are in the neighborhood. After all Laurelhurst is just across the freeway if memory serves.

Hi, how are you doing? Hope all is well.

We took Isabelle to the groomers today for her first haircut, and she has come home a brindle. Was her dad a brindle? I know her mum was a wheaten... She is a full brindle, except her face at this moment is still black.

She is growing and is answering her name good. She listens to Doug more than me. She is quite a good traveler in the truck. She does not like the doggy seat - climbs out all the time.

We are off to the beach - Fort Stevens in Oregon - this weekend, so we will see if she likes the beach and water. Mackenzie loves it.

I have had our first ever family reunion in town this week and it has been fun but crazy busy. Anyway I wanted you to have her pic and know that she is loved and in good hands. You have done a GREAT job preparing her for a family and she is just fitting in wonderfully.

She is eating and sleeping and playing with gusto and I don't think it will be too long before she is the alpha dog. She is pretty fearless for a little one! =)

She slept all thorough the night without a peep. Praise God!

Duncan is an avid TV watcher. He growls at the bad guys and monsters. Like at the dog park, he has certain dislikes: some dogs, all horses, cartoon characters, and ducks. Whenever the commercial with the Afflac duck comes on, he charges at the screen barking.

Hi Kayrn and Duane,

Hope you are doing well. The weather here threatens to be summer like but it really doesn't do it.

Maeve had her first visit with Dr. Cole last Thursday and she is in great shape. Everyone at the Vet. Clinic got to meet her. She is growing fast and full of energy. She is learning new tricks all the time, like getting Quincy to come out of a box in the kitchen so she can get in it. She plays with Quincy a lot but Gwennie and Bridget still keep their distance.

Hi Kayrn and Duane,

Thank you for all the wonderful pictures, and for the nice visit with you, and for Maeve.

We had a good trip home. It was beautiful up your way on Tuesday and a nice drive back to Mitchell. The people at the hotel all admired Maeve. She always let us know when it was time for her to stop and go potty.

Yesterday it was stormy all the way home with rain, sleet, hail and snow (at the high elevation above Grater Lake). When Maeve got cold after a walk outside Kate would hold her in her coat until she warmed up. Sometimes she would just go to sleep there.

Maeve and Quincy made friends right away. Now they are beginning to play. Bridget and Gwennie are a little more cautious but they both had dogs here for years so I'm sure they'll relax in a while. Maeve uses the pee pads and has not made one mess on the floor. She particularly likes to have a walk on the front lawn. She is "Queen of the House".

Merlo’s getting along well with Bordie…who is watching over him like a mom. And he loves to take Sunday afternoon naps on the bed with me it seems. Buddy seemed right at home with our Schitzu. They spend a lot of time running around the back yard taking turns chasing each other. She will wait for him to catch up then run ahead.

I thought he might be sad for a day or two, but he seems very happy all the time. He loves the grass for some reason and will run and then will roll over and over.

Hi Kayrn. By coincidence, I came across Catrina's picture on your website yesterday. What a cutie. Her face looks a lot like Duncan's when pointed forward like that. She seems slimmer all over, though. Duncan is turning into a big boy. He is a real bruiser, near 30 lbs.! He's really solid, though, with lots of muscle and little fat. He thinks he's an alpha male tough guy, too. He challenges any new male dog that comes into "his" park now regardless of size. He's also a good watchdog. On the other hand, he's quite gentle and affectionate to dogs he knows and considers part of his pack.

I've attached some more photos of him with me at his B-day. Keep me updated on Catrina. I can't wait until she's old enough to have a litter.

He's growing like a weed and he's about 10.5 lbs. He & Murdoc really enjoy playing together which consists of chasing through the yard and house & playing tug. We feel so fortunate that Murdoc is such an outside dog because that is what Gruder has become, so housebreaking hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be. He still doesn't like to get his little buns wet on the grass, though and I just don't trust him enough at night yet to let him sleep with the door to the kennel open. He is fun to have around.

I just wanted to send you a picture of Birtie before her new hair-doo. I love the way she looks all scruffy, but I also wanted to see her with a Scottie-doo.

She is the most amazing and wonderful dog we have ever owned! She LOVES watching dogs on T.V. and fetching. Her personality is joyful and always bouncing around cheerfully!

Wallace is a very good dog and is loved wherever he goes. Right now we are working on getting his weight down a bit. The winter so far has been very wet and he does not like to exercise in the rain so it has been a bit of a challenge keeping him trim. He also has the misfortune of being owned by "grandparents" rather than a young family of active kids to play with.

I am attaching a picture of him that was taken last summer doing his favorite "activity" - sitting in the yard and watching the neighbors! Ha-ha!

Hi Hinkleys, 'Gruder has settled in just fine. I think he knows his name-but not because he comes when I call him. He loves being outside but he won't hold still long enough to eat more than two bites. We went to the vet today for a shot and checkup and he weighs 5.7 lbs.

Thanks for all the good care you gave him. He is a sweet puppy and I think Murdoc will eventually come to want him around.

He was "Pumpkin Duncan Doughnut", but the mylar doughnut balloon I had attached to his collar only lasted about 3 minutes. Hope all is well with the new batch of pups and Duncan's sister, Catrina. I may be interested in one of her pups in a few years.

News from Fingal: now living in England!

Hello Oregon!
We are now living in England: Fingal is very happy (lot of games!) and he has a lovely garden with a very very green lawn... Yes, it's rainy and he doesn't like rain but he can rest inside as he wishes on his personal Chesterfield harm chair (no one else dare to use it).

Here is a few photos (this summer he visited Ireland and Cumbria).

And he is as always playing football!!

He is a bit hairy but he hates going to the hairdresser... he agrees to regular shower in the bathroom with the proper shampoo and conditioner... British are great with dogs and I think I have found a girlfriend in North Norfolk for him...

I am truly sorry to hear about Charlie. It saddens me to hear the news. My prayers are with you.

The pups heads are starting to get bigger now. They are cute, but super cute now plus so much fun.

Maggie is a little princess since she can be high maintenance especially when it comes to grooming and she always lets you know when she wants to be clean.

However, Emma is a little tomboy. They are a perfect combination together and so much fun.

Everyone who meets them loves them.

Hello Karyn,

Here are some pictures of Emma and Maggie. They are wonderful puppies both physically and in temperment. They are about 4.5 months old. Emma is 14.1 pounds and Maggie is 12.5 pounds. They just had their last shots and the vet says they are very healthy.

I would like to thank you and Duane for breeding such wonderful puppies. I would recommend to anyone who are intrested in Scottish Terriers to check out your website.

Hi, I hope that you will get this e-mail. Wanted to keep you up to date with Molly. She is wonderful Scottie.

I have been watching my great granddaughter since she was 3 months. Granddaughter is now 22 months and Molly has been just great with her. I was a little worried at first as Molly was 6 years old when we first started watching Ella but Molly was so good with her.

Now that granddaughter is on the go, Molly keeps out of her way at times but is always there for loving. She is a great traveler, and always ready to go. Cannot believe that she is 7 years now and still acts like a puppy. The vet asked me what I was feeding her the last check-up as she was doing so good. We are still on the Flint River diet but she loves her tidbits of cheese and watermelon.

Hi Kayrn and Duane. Well, Duncan is growing fast. The photos with me were taken yesterday. He has been such a joy since the day I received him. He's very affectionate and playful. I was able to take him to the dog park this week since his shots are done, and he started playing with the other dogs right away. Everyone there just fell in live with him. Don't be surprised if he drums up more business for you. I would gladly recommend you. I hope all is well.
